Region Shines as a Site for Defense Businesses

On July 15, the Northeast Indiana Defense Industry Association (NIDIA) hosted its inaugural legislative breakfast. Before a packed crowd of state and federal legislators, regional defense contracting business executives and association officials, David Augustine, NIDIA chairman, unveiled the “Why Northeast Indiana for Defense?” study recently produced by the Purdue Center for Regional Development (PCRD).

“One result that’s already come out of the campaign would be increased engagement from NIDIA, and in a regional fashion, with collaborators among business and industry as it relates to the defense sector,” said Melinda Grismer, a PCRD community and regional development specialist. Northeast Indiana is primed for economic growth because of its heritage, talent-pool business climate, supply chain and manufacturing infrastructure.
