Annie Cruz-Porter is one of the community and regional development specialists at the Purdue Center for Regional Development (PCRD). She plans and guides the implementation of community and economic strategies intended to enhance the vitality of regions across Indiana. In particular, Annie provides leadership for the Defense Manufacturing Assistance Program (DMAP) to assist defense-dependent communities in developing a plan of action to recover from the negative impacts of the recent defense drawdown. She also leads efforts in a wide variety of projects including local government and small business e-strategies in rural Indiana.
Prior to joining PCRD, Annie was a transportation planner in England. She has also been completing Ph.D. in Urban Studies and Planning from the University of Sheffield where she seeks to understand how the use of social media amplifies the relationship citizens have with their local communities. Annie has earned a Master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning from Ball State University and a Master’s degree in Geography from the University of London. She is a member of the American Planning Association and American Institute of Certified Planners. Annie has presented versions of her work to at both national and international academic conferences such as the UK and Ireland Planning Conference in Oxford, England.
